the wage gap in athletics

Male and Female athletes are treated extremely different in the sports industry as a whole.
One specific issue with this is the wage gap. In basketball specifically, women make a very small
amount compared to men. While the men make millions, women make a few hundred thousand.
I will specifically be looking at the wage gaps of different sports for athletes, coaches, and officials.
I am arguing that the way women are treated in sports is incredibly unfair, because they are paid
substantially less for doing the same work. In conclusion, I will be analyzing data of different sports
to determine why the wage gap between male and female athletes is so large and what can be done
to solve this issue.

  1. What really stood out about this post, as well as the presentation that you gave on this topic is the idea that for essentially doing the same job, men are paid an astronomical amount of money in comparison to women. Furthermore, I think this idea translates to a large percentage of the workforce throughout our entire nation. I like how the idea of the payment gap between genders is simplified by sports, which is a popular and understandable concept.

  2. I like the summary that you gave on your research paper that women are paid significantly less than men in the sports industry. This is also a very large problem in STEM fields. Women have to have signifcantly higher GPAs and achievements on their resume to be viewed as equal in comparision to a man with mediocre stats. This issue truly bothers to me and is shocking. I hope that one day we could reach near equality.

    1. I totally agree! We've come so far to where we are now, but there is still a long ways to go until it is actually equal!
